Frequently Asked Questions
What if I have an emergency or need care after hours?

Crissman Family Practice providers do not participate in hospital inpatient or emergency room care.  Although we don’t offer inpatient care, we take our after hour needs of our patients very seriously.  We understand that occasions arise where you need to speak to a provider after office hours.

We stress the importance that in the case of a life threatening emergency you proceed to your nearest emergency room.  During office hours please call our office line for an appointment or to talk to a receptionist.   Our providers are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week for non-life threatening emergencies only.  The providers can be reached through the hospital operator by calling 336-538-7000.    Our providers will return your call at the earliest convenience depending on that provider’s location during that after hours call.  Please be patient in waiting for the provider on call as they are aware if the event was life threatening you would proceed to the emergency room.

Our clinic has an after hour’s policy of not calling in controlled substances for any reason.  We do not refill medications or go over test results after hours as that should be handled in a formal visit setting within our office where the provider can visit with you one on one.  Our clinic does not call in or prescribe antibiotics over the phone or after hours as we feel it is inappropriate to treat patients over the phone for infections without seeing the patient face to face.  We hope this does not in any way inconvenience you but we pride ourselves in quality care and treating a patient over the phone to us is not considered quality care.
